Letter to the Philippines

Dear Philippines,

I really would like to write this letter in Filipino. However, I also want my fellowmen to read this letter of mine to you. Sadly, some of your people doesn’t understand Filipino.

You know what? I'm so happy and proud that I live in your place. It is such a beautiful country. With many plants and animal species, what more can I ask for? You've been blessed by different natural wonders. Did you know that your Mayon Volcano and Chocolate Hills, to name a few, are popular even outside Philippines? Yes they are! And many tourists would even like visit these wonders of yours.

You know what Philippines, you have so many islands, more than 7000. I want to travel all over you one day. To meet many of your inhabitants and to admire your wonders more. I know that you have more special wonders than what we see.

In behalf of my fellowmen, I would like to apologize to you Philippines. Some of us harmed you. Destroyed the forests, polluted the bodies of water and practically, almost destroying your natural wonders. Because of the things that we did, part of beauty faded.

You've been a strong country together with your inhabitants. Our ancestors defended you against the conquerors. Even though we've been under the Spanish regime for 300 years, our ancestors defended you because they love you. Their love for you united them and gave up their life. That's the reason why today, we are free. If it's not because of you Philippines and the love of our ancestors to you, I don't know what life we might have now.

But you know, even though we don't have any conquerors now, you are still not at peace. Here at Mindanao, there is no peace. In some places, there is. But in the places like Marawi and near it, there are always threat of war. Some people who lives there feel worried for their lives because they don't know when the war will start again. But it's not just happening here in Mindanao. It also happens at Luzon and Visayas. Bombings is inevitable in some parts of you.

My letter will stop here Philippines. But don't worry, I'll write to you again. Maybe about our President. I think he's nice. God bless always Philippines! I love you.

Loving you,
Filipino
