I've heard in the news that DepEd is proposing to add two more years in the basic education. Of course, due to the stubbornness of some Filipinos (sorry for the word), they started to state the reasons why DepEd should NOT add two years in the basic education.
In my own opinion, DepEd SHOULD add two more years. Why? Because that means we'll have a better quality in our education. Our neighboring countries has 12 years in basic education. Only Philippines has 10 years. So that means, we're 2 years short.
So why do am I saying that when the basic education is added with 2 more years, we'll have a better education quality? Simple. Even if Philippines is included in the Top 3 of the English-speaking countries, we can't hide the fact that in other aspects, we really fail. :(
In my own perspective as a senior student in high school, another 2 years is what we really need for us to be really ready for the world. Even now, some of my classmates haven't almost 'mastered' Algebra yet. Since we have some Korean classmates, I tried to compare a Filipino and a Korean in math. It turned out that somehow, they were kind of better. I asked my Korean classmate why she was good in math, then she told me they already had a little of that in Junior high and more of it in 2nd year. See the difference?
SO yeah, adding two more years means a better quality education.
