P-Pop Domination?

I know that most of you've heard Korean Pop, Japanese Pop and Mandarin Pop. Yet, have you heard of Pinoy (Philippine) Pop? You may answer me with "Huh?", "What?", "O.o", "Yeah", "Kind of" and so on. Actually, when I first heard about this, I was like "Really? What's that?"

P-Pop is said to be the new genre of Philippine Music. Yet I totally disagree! Nothing can ever replace OPM! Grrr.... But wait, many music critics and lovers said that P-Pop existed before but we never regarded it as P-Pop. We still called it as OPM. Who are these singers that was said to be doing P-Pop for so long now? These are just the two of my list.

  • Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano. Yesh, I so love his voice, songs and moves. His songs were also catchy and full of beat. I think in my own definition of P-Pop, Mr. Gary V. could be in the list.
  • Kyla. I also love her voice and songs. Her voice soothes me as well as the messages of her song.

Heya, I'm so okay with P-Pop if the songs would be uniquely in Filipino taste. I would support it, say that OPM shouldn't be forgotten yet we should also support  P-Pop. Make a Facebook Page about it like name it with "Pro OPM and P-Pop". But why should I do that now? When what's on the mind of many people is that P-Pop is a Korean rip-off? That P-Pop songs sounds like the Korean ones?

Take SH3, XLR8 and Pop Girls. I really don't hate them but I just don't like them. I get it that they are not the ones who conceptualize their looks, the music videos and compose their songs. What I don't like is that the people behind them made them look like Korean Group Wannabees.

One thing for sure, there are many people out there that are doubting if P-Pop would ever dominate atleast Philippines. We're open to music change but not to copy-to-the-Koreans-and-Japanese Music change. Get it?
